Grace Smith House and Rebuilding Together Dutchess County Partner in Support of the Youngest Victims

Poughkeepsie, New York: Grace Smith House Inc. and Rebuilding Together Dutchess County have come together to create a safe space and playground for children who have been victimized by domestic violence. As part of their Community Strong Program, Rebuilding together Dutchess County selected Grace Smith House’s playground project.

“Grace Smith House is grateful for the opportunity to partner with Rebuilding Together Dutchess County. We want to thank all of the volunteers and partners who came together for this project. The generosity of so many at Rebuilding Together, Consigli Construction, MidHudson Construction Management and others has made this possible” stated Branka Bryan, Executive Director of Grace Smith House.

The joint project included removal of  the remnants of a century old structure to make room for a basketball court, new playground equipment complete with climbing wall, swings and slides, picnic tables for young and old to enjoy. In addition a new sensory play area was installed with full accessibility for persons with disabilities and a shaded pergola with seating.

Grace Smith House is proud of creating a welcoming environment for families to enjoy. The space is designed to promote physical and social activity for children and adults. “Watching children feel safe, play and heal in this beautifully reconstructed space, reassures us of the community's ongoing commitment towards Grace Smith House and supporting families fleeing domestic violence,” expressed Bryan.
