Health Care Initiative for Medical Personnel

The Grace Smith Prevention and Education Team’s Health Care Initiative is a program designed to educate health care providers about domestic violence, the barriers to care, assessment for domestic violence using a brief, efficient assessment tool, and how to offer resources to identified victims of domestic violence.

The mission of the Prevention and Education Department’s healthcare initiative is to prevent and identify domestic violence through education and collaboration with the health care community. Together we work to empower and support victims of domestic violence in an effort to improve health and well-being in Dutchess County.

We provide education on all aspects of domestic abuse – including physical violence, erosive effects of coercive control, and barriers to seeking help – in an effort to improve patient health and independence. Our training strengthens provider facility with best practices for responding to disclosure and increases community awareness of services for domestic violence victims.

Training sessions for providers and those in the health care community are available from the Grace Smith House Prevention & Education team. Contact Director of Outreach and Support, Kim at (845) 452-7155, ext. 213
